Interview a student outside your major for their perspective on your beat. Blog about it.
For my interview, I spoke with Zierra McMillan, a senior majoring in Business Administration at Clark Atlanta University, to gain insight into how students think about health.
Interview Questions & Responses
Q: What’s one health issue you think students on campus face the most?
Mental health. There are a lot of factors in college that can be mentally challenging on top of the high academic demand that is already placed on students.
Q: How do you take care of your health or well-being while in school?
I take care of my health by reading and journaling, and prioritizing self-care and alone time.
Q: Are there any health resources on campus you’ve used or heard about?
I know there is a counselor on Clark Atlanta University’s campus; however, I’ve never utilized it.
Q: If you could tell other students one thing about health, what would it be?
Health is wealth. Health is the most important thing. Mental and physical. You can’t have one without the other, so stick to your vitamins and a good active routine, and good mental health exercises.
From this interview, I learned that mental health continues to be one of the biggest challenges that college students face, even though there are available resources on campus. Zierra’s emphasis on self-care and balance shows that health is both a physical and emotional journey. Our conversation highlights the need for more conversations about health on campus.
